Sourcing efforts should begin with data spend analysis of both current and historic spend data. Procurement spend analysis encompasses the activities beginning with extraction of raw data from purchasing or financial systems (such as Accounts Payable) to applying sophisticated tools to the datasets to develop an actionable understanding of spend patterns, key suppliers, degree of aggregation, types and categories of spend, etc. An aggregate spend analysis will help solidify the foundation of an efficient procurement strategy and increase spend visibility.
Spend analysis invariably identifies potential opportunities for savings and more significantly, their relative importance within a client's overall financial picture. This allows prioritization of the right savings/efficiency opportunities with the right level of effort and mix of resources.
Enporion's approach to spend analysis is to quickly get to the point where an assessment of opportunities can take place. We can typically conduct a preliminary analysis in a week (depending on the quantity and complexity of raw data). Input data sources include corporate cards (credit cards, purchase cards, etc.), Accounts Payable, line item data extracts from suppliers, or data from other ERP systems. The ultimate objective and payback from the spend analysis effort is in the development of a list of opportunities and the identification of specific sourcing initiatives that will deliver both immediate and long-term savings.
