Fastenal operates more than 1,000 stores
in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Singapore. Its stores
stock about 280,000 products, including threaded fasteners
such as screws, nuts, and bolts (which account for about
half of sales). Other sales come from power tools; metal-cutting
tool blades; fluid-transfer parts for hydraulic and
pneumatic power; janitorial, electrical, and welding
supplies; and material handling items. Other companies
make about 95% of Fastenal's products. Its customers
typically come from the construction and manufacturing
industries.
Fastenal Company has strategically set up distribution
centers and branch locations close to their customers.
Fastenal Company currently operates 12 distribution
centers and over 950 branch warehouse locations throughout
the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and Mexico.
Each distribution center services branch stores in
an approximate 500-mile radius. Branches located within
that radius are generally serviced by a single distribution.
Fastenal also sells through catalogs and its Web site. |
