Enporion Announces Availability of eVMS - electronic Vegetation Management Solution

Asplundh Tree Expert Co. Becomes First Customer, and Distributor to Utility Industry

Tampa, FL (May 3, 2006) - Enporion, the leading provider of sourcing and procurement services for energy and other industries, today announced the availability of a comprehensive set of technology tools to meet emerging requirements in utility vegetation management programs.

Additionally, Asplundh Tree Expert Co. has signed a license and distribution agreement with Enporion to bring eVMS - the electronic Vegetation Management Solution - to its customers in North America, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

In recent years, increased national concerns regarding electric service reliability have led the North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC) to develop the first national utility vegetation management (UVM) standard. This new set of requirements will impact every electric utility that manages vegetation adjacent to transmission voltage lines. Utilities will be required to document and report on many aspects of their UVM programs including clearances, processes, work scheduled and tasks accomplished, among others. eVMS will enable utilities to meet these new requirements, to acquire and maintain the data needed to properly manage vegetation, and to increase the overall efficiency of their UVM program.

eVMS will also be useful to organizations that are managing vegetation in any public rights-of-way for other facilities as well.

eVMS was developed by three companies in the United States with a strong heritage of providing new technology and services to the electric energy and utility industry: Enporion, ViryaNet, and CN Utility Consulting. CN Utility Consulting, with many years of experience in consulting on utility vegetation management issues, provides product definition leadership. Enporion is responsible for the development and operation of eVMS, and incorporated key capabilities from ViryaNet's proven work management system, Service Hub.

eVMS's patent-pending business process and systems provide the necessary tools and support for utilities to plan, execute, and report on every aspect of transmission and/or distribution vegetation management programs and activities. Such activities may include performing an inventory of vegetation, prioritizing pruning activities, and scheduling the resources (people and equipment) to perform the required tasks. The system will enable significant process efficiencies for Asplundh and its customers, will allow utilities to comply with and report on new NERC mandatory transmission clearance requirements, and will help these companies in improving overall T&D system reliability.

A pre-production field trial of eVMS has been successfully completed with Asplundh and Southern California Edison. The project, conducted in the second half of 2005, clearly demonstrated the capabilities of eVMS to capture and update inventory information, dispatch work assignments to crews, capture completed work, and report results. The field trial confirmed that eVMS provided more timely information on completed work and streamlined vegetation management processes to make better use of resources.

As a result of the agreement announced recently, Asplundh Tree Expert Co. will now market and distribute eVMS. Adopting eVMS's state-of-the-art system will help Asplundh's customers manage their vegetation programs more effectively.

"Asplundh has a long history of identifying new processes and tools that have driven productivity improvements in the utility vegetation management process," said Scott Asplundh, president of Asplundh Tree Expert Co. "eVMS is a technology tool that will streamline many aspects of that process for our customers, thereby improving reliability and helping with regulatory reporting."

"Almost two years ago, we began the eVMS development work with our partners CNUC and ViryaNet", said George Gordon, chairman and CEO of Enporion. "This combination has allowed us to deliver a very powerful set of capabilities at a time when the industry is confronted with major new reporting requirements in vegetation management. Now, in partnership with Asplundh, we will be able to quickly deliver these tools to many customers throughout the Asplundh operating regions. We are excited about our ongoing role in the development and operation of eVMS."

Additional information on eVMS may be found at www.evmsolution.com or by contacting Enporion.

CN Utility Consulting Launches Best-In-Industry Utility Vegetation Management Solution, Powered By Enporion And Viryanet

System significantly enhances current utility vegetation management programs while addressing new government concerns

San Francisco, CA (May 12, 2005) - CN Utility Consulting (CNUC), an established industry leader in Utility Vegetation Management (UVM) consulting, today announced the planned product release of "electronic Vegetation Management Solution" (eVMS) for utility companies. Developed in partnership with Enporion and ViryaNet, eVMS is a first-to-market computerized system that provides utility companies with the necessary tools for effectively administering a UVM program. eVMS is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2005.

Better management of vegetation adjacent to utility assets and facilities is becoming increasingly important to all utility companies. Drivers such as the August 14, 2003 Northeast Blackout, new FERC reporting requirements, looming NERC UVM standards, and increasing focus by many state public utility commissions, present significant and urgent challenges to utility companies.

Designed by utility professionals for the utility industry, eVMS's patent-pending business process and systems provide the necessary tools and support for utilities to create, plan, execute, monitor, and report on every aspect of transmission and/or distribution UVM programs and activities. Such activities may include performing an inventory of vegetation, prioritizing pruning activities, and scheduling the resources (people and equipment) to perform required tasks.

eVMS provides the appropriate automation to address the new challenges and expectations of today's UVM industry. eVMS integrates the leading utility focused e-commerce and mobile workforce management solutions with the expertise of leading industry UVM experts. The result delivers a single, integrated solution providing the appropriate level of automation to support the utility's entire transmission and distribution UVM cycle.

eVMS starts with a model of vegetation adjacent to transmission and distribution assets. Sourcing tools support requisition, contract creation and management needs. eVMS provides for paperless creation of pre-inspection, audit, and tree-crew work orders. eVMS also handles planning, street level routing and work order optimization, and wireless mobile execution of the work in a paper-less mode to drive efficiencies through the entire process. When work gets done, eVMS updates the tree inventory database and processes the necessary follow-up, like invoices or follow-up removal or pruning work, based on a utility's specific type of contracting.

"In an industry where performing one cycle of work can take years and the obstacles to success are growing, change is an expected course of business. However, when rules change as fast as the environment, industry professionals need to look beyond traditional methods of addressing change. eVMS is by far the most complete vegetation management system of its kind," said Bob Novembri, CEO of CN Utility Consulting. "It not only provides a critical service to utilities, it does so at a time when government regulators are extremely conscious of problems that occur when vegetation management is not properly addressed."

"eVMS is designed not only to help utilities manage the ever-critical vegetation management program throughout their service territory, but to do so in a completely efficient manner," said George Gordon, chairman and CEO of Enporion. "Our goal as a company has been to supply our customers with the best way to procure goods and services, and we look at vegetation management as a critical service."

"The effort to manage vegetation near utility assets represents a major expense to these companies," said Paul V. Brooks, CEO of ViryaNet. "As expectations and demands for better management increase, companies need to find new and effective ways to manage this expense."

eVMS was designed to work at any utility that is interested in improving its current UVM program.

About CN Utility Consulting
CNUC is an established industry leader in consulting on all issues related to UVM. In addition to such high profile projects as the work on the August 14th Northeast Blackout for the United States and Canadian governments, CNUC has also completed the largest UVM benchmarking projects ever accomplished in the industry. Equally important, CNUC has been directly involved with the development of various UVM regulations and requirements, including the NERC draft standard for transmission operations. Enporion Releases New Online Marketplace Catalog

New software capabilities enhance resource efficiency and processing speed

TAMPA, Fla. (March 23, 2004) - Enporion, a leading provider of strategic sourcing services for both buyers and suppliers in the energy utility industry, has released the next generation of its online catalog making this industry-best service faster and easier for customers to search and to create purchase orders.

In addition to featuring increased processing speed and a tailored, simplified search engine, the new catalog maintains a single marketplace image for all of Enporion's buyers and suppliers. Shoppers do not need to become familiar with multiple supplier web sites and unique interfaces; the buying experience is the same whether the commodity is office supplies, or wire and cable, or polyethylene pipe.

"Enporion has enabled its customers to achieve considerable savings through e-Procurement, and we are continuously looking for new ways to maximize resource efficiency," said Chairman and CEO George Gordon. "The enhancements we have made to our catalog functionality simplify the buying process and are custom-tailored to our customers' needs, thus allowing for greater overall efficiency and member savings."

Enporion's new catalog implements multiple state-of-the-art enhancements for customers. It provides a 30-fold increase in the number of concurrent users and features a custom-built system that allows content to be loaded more rapidly than before. A new search engine provides an average search result in typically less than three seconds. Additionally, the category search function has been simplified and redesigned to directly match the customers' needs-customers can now use a sort function to prioritize their search results by supplier.

"Besides providing a more accurate and responsive search capability for buyers, this new catalog significantly improves our maintenance capabilities," said Jim Garcia, Chief Technology Officer of Enporion. "In the past we had to run multiple occurrences of the system to accommodate long data-load and modification times; now we can change supplier data quickly and easily, including new pricing tables or item descriptions. Buyers can be assured they are always shopping from the latest available data."

Because the new catalog is specifically designed to serve the needs of an electronic marketplace, it accommodates multiple buyers and suppliers and can enable multiple price files per supplier. The catalog is currently running over 1.5 million Stock Keeping Units (SKUs), and can easily scale to a virtually unlimited number of SKUs. The variety of products ranges from basic office products to fittings, fasteners, safety material and transformers.

"A company using this catalog can quickly and efficiently fill its shopping cart with everything from computer peripherals to sophisticated fittings, pipes, valves and operating equipment," Gordon said. "The real advantage is that these companies can more easily order and can get a better understanding and analysis of their spending."

In addition to implementing this catalog product for its current customers, Enporion is making this software and service available to other marketplaces, both public and private, as well as to government agencies.

Enporion Completes $9 Million Funding Round

Enporion Founders Invest to Retire Long-Term Debt and Fund Additional Company Expansion

TAMPA, Fla. (December 4, 2003) - Enporion, a leading provider of advanced and highly efficient sourcing and procurement services for the energy utility industry, announced today it has completed a fourth round of funding. Investors were limited to Enporion's original founders.

The company used a portion of the funds to retire long-term debt. In addition, this funding will allow Enporion to continue increasing the services it is providing to gas and electric energy companies. A recent company announcement, dated October 21, 2003, highlighted new sourcing support tools and supplier agreements in the first of a series of planned enhancements.

Enporion's buyer members continue to see significant savings and returns from their participation in the Enporion electronic marketplace. The additional investment made by the founders of the company reflects the returns that are accruing not only to these founders but also to companies that have joined Enporion since its inception.

According to John Biggar , Executive Vice President and CFO of PPL Corporation, "In August, 2000, PPL Corporation believed it could reap substantial benefits by participating in the formation of a company dedicated to providing strategic sourcing services to the energy industry. Today the wisdom of that investment is clearly demonstrated as PPL will realize net savings in 2003 alone of $5M through its Enporion membership."

"At a time when the gas and electric energy industry is emerging from a period of severe financial challenge," said George Gordon, Enporion Chairman and CEO, "electronic procurement is maturing and providing a tremendous opportunity to streamline purchasing operations. Both buyers and suppliers can gain from the efficiencies now demonstrated and proven by this environment. Enporion is pleased to have reached a point in its history where the vision of its founders is justified."

Lenore Puleo, Executive Vice President Client Services, KeySpan Energy, further noted: "KeySpan Energy has realized significant purchase savings due to its participation in Enporion since its founding. As we begin to implement electronic capabilities such as invoicing and payments, and expand the use of electronic catalogs and group collaboration, there are significant process savings that KeySpan will achieve as well. Electronic commerce is delivering results for KeySpan."

Enporion Announces New Service Offerings

New offerings enhance already strong product suite, expand scope of service to members

TAMPA, Fla. (October 21, 2003) - Enporion, a leading provider of strategic sourcing services for both buyers and suppliers in the energy utility industry, has introduced two new service offerings to its product suite, Dynamic Buyer Agreements and Negotiated Buyer Agreements. These additions strengthen an already impressive group of services to provide each member company with the top eProcurement solutions available.

"Enporion has demonstrated over the past three years the considerable savings available through eProcurement and Group Contracts," said Chairman and CEO George Gordon. "The addition of Dynamic Buyer Agreements and Negotiated Buyer Agreements addresses the needs of member companies with a large number of blanket and specialty contracts, expands the opportunities for member savings, and broadens the scope of eProcurement solutions for our members."

Dynamic Buyer Agreements are used specifically to competitively bid a single company's existing term or blanket contract. Frequently, existing term or blanket contracts are simply renewed and not bid out due to the time and effort required. Dynamic Buyer Agreements alleviate the time burden associated with the process and result in competitive pricing and process savings.

Negotiated Buyer Agreements are used to negotiate contracts between multiple members and a single existing supplier. Companies often have multiple contracts with the same supplier, all with different terms and conditions. Negotiated Buyer Agreements aggregate these contracts with other members' contracts using the same supplier to standardize the buying process and provide like terms and conditions. The primary benefits of Negotiated Buyer Agreements are process savings (automated, standardized buying process), catalog buying and spend tracking.

These offerings provide new savings opportunities for Enporion member companies. Pilot implementations of Dynamic Buyer Agreements, for example, have already yielded average savings of 15 percent to Enporion members.

"Enporion has continually displayed its ability to be a customer-driven organization", said Tom Burnham, Manager of Purchasing at CMS Energy. "These new offerings evolved as members' experiences indicated a need for more sourcing and eProcurement solutions. CMS Energy will be working with Enporion to use reverse auctions for term and blanket agreements and expects to realize significant procurement savings as a result."

In addition to these two new service offerings, Enporion's members can choose an individual sourcing approach from an already solid suite of services:

  • Group Contracts are appropriate when multiple members wish to aggregate and leverage spend, believe some degree of standardization is possible, and have multiple competitive suppliers for the commodity.
  • Supplier Participation Agreements are for member companies that intend to remain with a given supplier's contract but wish to implement the buying experience via Enporion's eMarketplace and electronic catalog. Supplier Participation Agreements allow a member to achieve a common electronic interface and buying process consistent with the member's other buying practices.
  • Dynamic Commerce is used for spot-buys, perhaps for large capital or other one-time projects. It is usually performed for a single member, although on some occasions Enporion recognizes that multiple members have common requirements and have aggregated these into a single Dynamic Commerce event.

"Enporion recognizes the need to serve as many different sourcing activities in an energy company's buying department as possible," said Gordon. "Our current suite of services addresses virtually every area of the supply chain, thus not only strengthening our position as a leading eProcurement provider, but also providing cost savings that translate directly to the bottom lines of our member companies."

According to Terry Ray, Vice President, Energy Information Strategies at META Group Inc., "Cost pressures in utility companies continue to be a top priority. Since procurement represents a significant component of utility expenses, companies are constantly looking for ways to reduce this cost. eProcurerment exchanges have already produced significant savings for their members, and enhanced services in this domain will allow utility companies to address additional areas of spend and will lead to further savings. All of this is very good news for an industry striving to restore financial credibility."

This complete suite of services is available to Enporion member companies immediately.

Babcock Power Inc., Joins Enporion e-Marketplace to Reduce Supply Chain Costs and Improve Service to Utility Industry

Major Utility Industry Supplier Will Drive Down Its Purchasing Costs and Will Enable Enporion Benefits for Its Own Suppliers

TAMPA (March 27, 2003) - Enporion, the energy industry e-Marketplace helping buyers and suppliers achieve supply chain excellence, and Babcock Power Inc., a worldwide supplier of technology, equipment and services to the power generation industry, today announced Babcock Power’s membership in Enporion as a Strategic Buyer Member.

Strategic Buyer Members have access to all the products and services of the Enporion marketplace, including dynamic commerce auctions and the aggregated buying power of group contracts. Babcock Power joins other Enporion strategic buyers that include Ameren, PPL Corporation, KeySpan Energy Services, We-Energies, and other gas and electric energy companies that are seeing significant savings results from membership in Enporion.

In 2002, these members realized 15 percent in direct purchasing savings from the use of auctions, and buying through negotiated group contracts representing more than 35 unique commodity groups achieved another 9 percent savings.

Babcock Power is the first supplier company to join Enporion as a Strategic Buyer Member. Its goal is to achieve the same savings results in its own purchasing operations that energy companies are realizing.

In addition, Babcock Power’s membership introduces Enporion’s Affiliate Buyers’ Program. Babcock Power may sponsor the company’s current suppliers of goods and services for membership in Enporion as Affiliate Buyer Members. These suppliers would have access to many of the same services from Enporion as Strategic Buyer Members, allowing them to realize cost and process savings and optimize supply chain performance.

"A successful electronic marketplace must offer benefits to both buyers and suppliers," said Enporion Vice President of Sales Bill Browne. "We are very pleased that Babcock Power has chosen not only to supply our utility company members through the Enporion marketplace, but also to use the power of this marketplace to achieve supply chain savings in its own business.

In addition, working with Babcock Power’s suppliers through our affiliate buyers program, we will enable a cascading of savings to the benefit of everyone operating in the utility industry."

According to Babcock Power’s Paul Cummins, Director, Domestic and International Procurement, “Babcock Power’s membership in Enporion represents a positive transformation of our company from a traditional OEM Supply Management philosophy. Diversified Enporion platforms provide a bridge in which Babcock Power can successfully aggregate its spend across intra-company Supply Management Departments resulting in bottom line cost reductions for our customers. Furthermore, this membership also allows us to leverage additional cost savings directly with key suppliers through the Affiliate Buyers’ Program.”

Enporion, eScout, Eutilia, Exostar and IBX See Increase in Spend and Trading Volumes in 2002

PLEASANTON, Calif. - February 18, 2003 - Commerce One (Nasdaq: CMRC) today reported that leading, global e-marketplaces including Enporion, eScout, Eutilia, Exostar and IBX experienced a significant increase in transactions in 2002, delivering time and cost savings to members. Today, more than 50 e-marketplaces use Commerce One solutions to gain supply chain efficiencies and improve business processes across their distributed networks of trading partners.

Commerce One's e-marketplace solutions addressed the complex task of connecting and streamlining business processes across trading partners' unlinked systems. Because e-marketplaces enable companies to conduct business outside of their firewalls, they also have the added complexity of integrating and managing systems over which they have no control among numerous trading partners. Commerce One's infrastructure helps companies to manage diverse systems and still enable the execution of complex business processes.

Commerce One-powered e-marketplaces continue to report significant time and cost savings. Following are some of the successes these leading e-marketplaces have achieved in 2002:

The company expects to more than double these results in 2003. Enporion currently connects 11 utility companies and hundreds of suppliers through its e-marketplace, and has successfully interfaced its Commerce One platform to many different e-procurement and ERP systems.

· eScout enables thousands of companies to automate their purchasing processes and supplier connectivity. EScout reports that its transactional growth reached almost 100 percent in the last two quarters of 2002 and transaction volume nearly doubled every six months for the last 18 months. eScout's supplier directory includes 1,700 transaction-ready suppliers, 800 catalogue suppliers, and more than 20 million items. Through eScout, customers such as Interstate Bakeries (IBC) estimate first-year savings of $5 million and a 50 percent reduction in invoice entry time and check writing process time.

· Eutilia, Europe's leading utility industry marketplace, reported €1 billion of throughput via 200 sourcing projects, achieving up to 30 percent savings on the cost of goods procured in 2002, its first operating year. Overall, savings to-date reached an average of seven percent. Its Transaction Services were launched in Q4 2002. Eutilia is founded by 11 of the largest utility companies in Europe and has 1,200 trading suppliers.

· Exostar, the aerospace and defense industry's online trading exchange founded by BAE SYSTEMS, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and Rolls Royce, handled an estimated half a million procurement transactions in 2002 with an estimated $2 billion in spend across the exchange. Exostar's 2002 estimated figures represent a 300 percent increase in trading volumes.

· IBX, a leading e-procurement and private exchange service provider in Northern Europe, serving companies like Ericsson, Volvo, SEB, Fortum and Novo Nordisk, experienced a 50 percent increase in transactions from Q1 to Q4, 2002. Revenues increased by 20 percent from 2001 to 2002 (€7.5 million) and its order book for 2003 is already now exceeding revenue numbers for 2002. Monthly transactions over IBX are approximately €80 million.

"Commerce One remains extremely proud of the ongoing success and growth of its marketplace customers," said Narry Singh, chief marketing officer of Commerce One. "The defining attribute of successful marketplaces remains their ability to move from simple transaction services to enabling truly collaborative business processes across trading partners. Our new composite application platform, Conductor, addresses this key technical challenge by providing a standards-based platform to connect, create and control not only information, but applications, services and business processes across diverse systems. The end result is a deeper and more effective trading partner collaboration."
